Group Policy Auditing with Netwrix Auditor

Report and alert on Group Policy changes and generate state-in-time reports

Long-Term Historical Reporting

The long-term archiving of audit data is required by compliance regulations including:

  • SOX regulations require keeping of audit reports for a period not less than 7 years
  • HIPAA regulations require holding records of all activities for a minimum of 6 years
  • PCI regulations require retaining of the audit trail history for at least one year, etc.

Netwrix Group Policy auditing solution uses two-tier method of storing data to facilitate long-term historical reporting: The first tier stores collected audit data in SQL for fast reporting. The second tier features a file-based compressed storage to facilitate long-term historical reporting for any period of time, as required by regulatory auditors or internal policies.

Microsoft MVP, Don Jones states, "Netwrix offers one of the most well thought-out long-term data archival strategies, using a two-tiered system that utilizes SQL Server for online reporting, and file-based compressed storage for long-term storage." Our storage approach was designed to provide both high-performance and long-term retention.

Collected change information is automatically archived and can be stored for 7 years or more to produce a complete audit trail of changes made to Group Policy and optionally, Active Directory and Exchange for any period. This allows administrators, managers and auditors to drill-down into detailed Group Policy history of changes as necessary. Netwrix Auditor archives the complete audit trail allowing organizations to analyze past policies and GPO history and maintain ongoing compliance with internal and external regulations.
