Question I am getting system errors related to backup reports during the product upgrade. Why do I need these backup reports, and how can I resolve the issue?
Answer To ensure the sustainable and comprehensive reporting functionality, all your reports and subscriptions from the previous product version are backed up on the product upgrade. The backup reports are available in the Backup (<backup date>) folder under the Reports node of your Managed Object. You can use the backup reports in the same way as you did before the upgrade.During the product upgrade you may encounter the following errors related to the reports backup process:

1. Error: Cannot update the backup reports structure.

The issue occurred because the backup reports structure was not updated on the product upgrade. This only applies to the drillthrough reports. To resolve the issue, correct the backup reports structure manually in the Drillthrough and LinkedReports sections as follows:

a)Open a <drillthrough report>.rdl file. By default, the backup reports are stored in C:\Program Files (x86)\NetWrix\Windows Server Change Reporter\Reports\ NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter\Backup (<backup date>).

b)In the Drillthrough section, correct the report path to include the Backup (<backup date>) folder name as in the example below:
    The initial path before the upgrade:
<Drillthrough>
    <ReportName>/NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter/Overall Changes/All Server Changes by Date</ReportName>
</Drillthrough>
    Change to:
      <Drillthrough>
<ReportName>/NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter/Backup (2012.06.14 08.30.05)/Overall Changes/All Server Changes by Date</ReportName>
      </Drillthrough>
c)In the Linked Reports section, correct the report path to include the Backup (<backup date>) folder name as in the example below:
    The initial path before the upgrade:
<CustomProperties>
              <CustomProperty>

                        <Value><LinkedReportList><LinkedReport Path="/NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter/Overall Changes/All Server Changes by Date"/></LinkedReportList> </Value>
               </CustomProperty>
             </Custom Properties>
Change to:
<CustomProperties>
              <CustomProperty>

                        <Value><LinkedReportList><LinkedReport Path="/NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter/Backup (2012.06.14 08.30.05)/Overall Changes/All Server Changes by Date"/></LinkedReportList> </Value>
              </CustomProperty>
            </CustomProperties>

2. Error: Cannot update subscriptions to the backup reports.

In order for the subscriptions created before the product upgrade to work correctly, they must refer to the updated paths to the reports. The issue occurred because some paths have not been updated. To resolve the issue, correct the paths to the backup reports for all existing subscriptions manually by doing the following:
a) Open a <subscription> file. By default, the subscription files are stored in: C:\ProgramData\NetWrix\Management Console\Advanced Reporting\Subscriptions\ <Managed Object name> \ <NetWrix product name>.
b) In the SourcePath section, correct the report path to include the Backup (<backup date>) folder name as in the example below:
    The initial path before the upgrade:
    <SourcePath> C:\Program Files (x86)\NetWrix\Windows Server Change Reporter\Reports\NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter\Overall Changes\All Server Changes by Date.rdl</SourcePath>
    <BaseDirectory> C:\Program Files (x86)\NetWrix\Windows Server Change Reporter\Reports\</BaseDirectory>
    <FullPath> C:\Program Files (x86)\NetWrix\Windows Server Change Reporter\Reports\NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter\Overall Changes\All Server Changes by Date.rdl </FullPath>
    Change to:
    <SourcePath> C:\Program Files (x86)\NetWrix\Windows Server Change Reporter\Reports\NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter\Backup (2012.06.14 08.30.05)\Overall Changes\All Server Changes by Date.rdl</SourcePath>
    <BaseDirectory> C:\Program Files (x86)\NetWrix\Windows Server Change Reporter\Reports\</BaseDirectory>
    <FullPath> C:\Program Files (x86)\NetWrix\Windows Server Change Reporter\Reports\NetWrix Windows Server Change Reporter\Backup (2012.06.14 08.30.05)\Overall Changes\All Server Changes by Date.rdl </FullPath>

3. Error: Cannot remove the backup reports from the Report Server.

During the product upgrade, the backup reports are usually removed from the server automatically; otherwise the new reports versions cannot be uploaded.
To resolve the issue, in the Report Manager of SQL Server Reporting Services, open the required NetWrix product folder and delete all report folders.

4.Cannot upload the backup reports to the Report Server.

Usually, after the product upgrade, the backup reports are uploaded to the Report Server and the existing subscriptions refer to them by the updated paths. This issue occurred as the upload of the backup reports failed. To resolve the issue, upload the reports manually, by doing one of the following:
  • In NetWrix Management Console, navigate to Managed Objects → <your Managed Object> → <NetWrix module> → Reports and click Upload under Web-based Reports.
  • Upload reports individually by going to the required report’s page in the console and clicking View Report.
If you have not found a solution, you can submit a ticket to NetWrix Technical Support Team. To speed up the issue resolution, please provide the support team with the following Reports Backup tracing files:
  • C:\ Program Files (x86)\Common Files\NetWrix\Management Console\Tracing\ReportsBackupSystem.SetupAction.log
  • C:\Users\ <current user>\<AppData>\NetWrix\BackupReports.txt.
