How to control the size of Netwrix SQLCRAudit databases on SQL instances? And what it is needed for?
KB1764 | Last review: Oct 16, 2013 | Netwrix Auditor for SQL Server | 2.5 and above
|Question||How to control the size of Netwrix SQLCRAudit databases on SQL instances and what they are used for.|
|Answer||If the "Database content audit" option is enabled as a part of SQL Server audit, the product creates an additional database - NetwrixSQLaudit on each monitored SQL server that is used to store information about all changes to other server databases.
To control the size of these SQLCRAudit database the following two options are suggested:
1. Disable the "Database content audit" option completely if you are not interested in table changes, and delete these SQLCRAudit databases from your SQL servers.
2. Shrink SQLCRAudit databases via MSSQL Management Studio. The product cleans up the DB at the end of every collection; however MSSQL maintains the maximum allocated size for the DB. You can use a script to shrink this database daily by adding this task to "Jobs" in MSSQL Server.
