Recover Access to a SQL Server Instance
KB1782 | Last review: Nov 20, 2013 | Netwrix Auditor | All Versions
|Question||How to log into SQL Server Management Studio if no known sysadmin accounts are known.|
|Answer||By default the Local System account on the SQL Server has sysadmin rights in SQL. Perform the following in order to be able to log into SQL Management Studio and give another known account proper sysadmin permissions.
1) Download PSExec http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897553.aspx
2) Run the following command modifying the path to the SSMS.exe as necessary: PsExec -s -i "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Ssms.exe"
Now SQL Management Studio should open and after clicking Connect you will be connected with sysadmin permissions.
