Chemical Manufacturer Saves Hours on Internal Audits and Gets Ready for J-SOX
Netwrix Auditor enables Zeon Chemicals to enhance the security of critical financial assets and improve reporting for audits
Irvine, CA, July 5, 2017
Netwrix Corporation, provider of a visibility platform for user behavior analysis and risk mitigation in hybrid environments, announced today that Zeon Chemicals leverages visibility provided by Netwrix Auditor to reduce risks of data breaches and data tampering and ensure adherence to J-SOX requirements.
Zeon Chemicals is a U.S. subsidiary of the Japan-based chemical manufacturer Zeon Corporation, which specializes in producing and supplying synthetic rubbers, specialty resins and electronic components. The company operates plants in Kentucky, Texas and Mississippi. As a branch of a Japanese corporation, Zeon Chemicals is a subject to the J-SOX compliance standard, so it must ensure the confidentiality and integrity of its financial data. Therefore, the IT team needed to gain visibility into the IT environment, which comprises 5 data centers, 100 servers and 300+ users. Otherwise, they would face higher risks of non-compliance with J-SOX, which could hurt the subsidiary’s reputation in the eyes of the parent company and its shareholders.
Zeon Chemicals’ IT department deployed Netwrix Auditor because it is lightweight and easy to install and use. Moreover, unlike the other solution they used before, Netwrix Auditor does not hurt system performance when monitoring user activity. Leveraging the software, the company achieved the following results:
- Improved control over SQL servers. Netwrix Auditor delivers information on activity across all SQL servers in one report. That saves the IT team at least 2 hours on monthly internal audits and eliminates convoluted processes of manual monitoring.
- Faster investigations. Now the IT team tracks down harmful activity faster. For instance, Netwrix Auditor helped them quickly find a rogue PC that was changing the attributes of every file stored on the file server daily. Without the software, they would have noticed there was an issue only after the server had become unresponsive.
- Improved reporting for audits. Netwrix Auditor enables the IT team to automate the internal auditing process to make sure that all security controls are followed. They also expect the software to help them to strengthen their J-SOX reporting, so it will become easier to provide auditors with evidence that their financial statements are secure and were not improperly modified.
"Netwrix Auditor provides us with visibility into user activity in the enterprise, which is extremely important for strengthening IT controls. The software became a cornerstone of our IT strategy because it helps us improve overall security and automate internal audit activities, and will definitely ease J-SOX reporting. Now we can also more quickly detect and investigate activity that could potentially lead to sensitive data exfiltration or tampering," said Jochen Sievert, IT Director at Zeon Chemicals.
"Security of financial data is essential for businesses, since it is critical not only for running day-to-day operations and staying a reliable partner, but also for ensuring compliance with strict regulations. Profound visibility into the IT environment enables organizations to establish control over the entire infrastructure and promptly detect activity that may put data at risk, as well as reduce preparation time for audits," said Michael Fimin, CEO and Co-Founder of Netwrix.
