Electric Utility Slashes Troubleshooting Time to 15 Minutes to Ensure Business Continuity

Pike Electric prevents disruption of financial operations by leveraging visibility provided by Netwrix Auditor

Irvine, CA, August 29, 2017

Netwrix Corporation, provider of a visibility platform for user behavior analysis and risk mitigation in hybrid environments, announced today that Pike Electric deployed Netwrix Auditor to speed troubleshooting and ensure uninterrupted business processes.

Pike Electric, based in North Carolina, U.S., is the original non-union craft organization that performs construction and maintenance of transmission lines, substations, distribution lines and other electric infrastructure across the country. Its IT complex infrastructure, which comprises 400 servers, 42 domain controllers and 40 file servers, is pivotal to its financial operations, so uncontrolled activity of the more than 2,700 users can affect the corporation’s commercial performance. Pike needed to gain visibility into user activity in order to better spot emerging problems and remediate them before they disrupt financial operations or cause business downtime.

Netwrix Auditor met all the requirements of Pike’s IT department, including clearly structured reports on changes across key systems, easy-to-configure alerting and reasonable pricing. With the solution, Pike gained the following benefits:

  • Faster troubleshooting for better business continuity. When one of the system administrators accidentally reset the security settings on one of the organizational units, the entire accounting department went down. Using Netwrix Auditor, the IT department found the root cause and reversed the undesired changes in less than 15 minutes, minimizing lost productivity.
  • Preventing downtime with staff training. With insights into user behavior, especially administrative activity, Pike’s IT leaders can now coach their teams how to manage the infrastructure more efficiently and minimize the risk of incorrect changes in the future.

"To keep the business running, we need to be able to bill our customers, receive revenue from them and pay our employees. Netwrix Auditor perfectly supports this cycle and keeps the flow going as efficiently as possible. It gives us insights into user activity across our key systems by showing who made what change and when. With Netwrix Auditor, we always know where the problem is and how to quickly remediate it, saving hours of labor time," said Kerry Schrantz, Network Operations Manager at Pike Electric.

"Unauthorized activity across the IT infrastructure can degrade system availability and disrupt business operations, which are serious problems for companies that offer non-stop services. Deep visibility across the environment helps IT departments spot and remediate incidents quickly, regardless of the size of the IT infrastructure and the number of network users. This way, they can ensure system uptime and keep the business running," said Michael Fimin, CEO and Co-founder of Netwrix.
